It is an interesting article, though I think it focuses on the most radicle of opinions in leftist politics. You could certainly find equivalent articles (or books) about people fleeing the Republican Right too. For instance, former Delaware Governor Russell Peterson changed his registration in 1996 from Republican to Democrat, writing a book entitled "Patriots, Stand Up!" explaining why. Even if you disagree, its a good, quick read. His main bone is environmental issues, but he cites everything from ignoring the social safety net in favor of tax cuts to the recent war in Iraq as evidence the Republican Party has radicalized and changed.
